The Leather Workshop.
Leather Alteration & Repair

Click Here - The Leather Workshop

If like me you've ever bought a set of leathers either in one or two piece and thought I wished they fitted a bit better !!! Salvation is at hand, in the shape of Debbie Rodgers owner of the Leather Workshop.

Having had my Dainese leathers now for a while and what with various off's and other thing's I've had my Dainese's repaired and altered by the Leather Workshop on several occasions firstly when the legs needed repairing after I'd taken them to another leather alteration company locally who managed to mess them up, and Debbie managed to fix them up as good as new and also fitted a fillet piece into the back of the trousers, so I could bend further forward on the bike, I also had a back protector pocket put in the jacket a couple of years ago after the Hein Gericke Back Shock keep falling out because I'd stuck it in by using some sticky backed Velcro, I've also had to have the zip replaced in the trousers and also jacket recently.

Price wise I think the Leather Workshop is very reasonable and the quality of Debbie's workmanship is second to non in fact a lot of the motorcycling press use the Leather Workshop for their logo work, also such names as Chris Walker, James Haydon, Jamie Whitham, Terry Rymer and Ewan McGregor have also had their leathers worked on, which say's a lot, for the service and quality of the work carried out.

The Leather Workshop is based in the north of England but also holds fitting days in London Bi-weekly, phone Debbie Rodgers on 0114 2013922 to make an appointment or visit the Links Page to visit the web site.

Hein Gericke Hiprotec Back Shock Air (Vented)
CE Approved Back Protector

I bought this HG Hiprotec Back Shock Air to replace the non vented one I'd been using a couple of years ago now, after having the pocket put into my jacket (see above) mainly because it offered better protection and was vented to help keep the circulation flowing when it gets warmer.

It fit's perfectly into the pocket Debbie at The Leather Workshop fitted into the Jacket of my Dainese 2-piece a while ago now, and in the last 2 or possibly 3 years that I've been using it, it has proved to be perfect at keeping the ventilation flowing, when the temperature rises as it does sometimes in this country.
HG Back Shock Air
The HG Air has 4 layers to give better impact absorption and is CE approved to EN 1621-2, the HG Air is a fair big thicker about 1 inch, than the previous back shock I was using and it took a little while to get used to but once acclimatized, it has proved very comfortable and better at keeping my back cooler especially in warmer climates.

The HG Air now cost's £29.99 at 2008 prices and comes in Small, Medium or Large.
Available from Hein Gericke.

If you don't already have a back protecter get one soon, you never know it might just save you from serious injury, mine did.

Motrax Mini Arrow Indicators.

Motrax Mini Arrow Winker
Fitted Feb 2008.

Having fitted some of these to my recently acquired 2002 CBR954, I thought I'd add a little bit of further info on these items, having previously used Hein Gerick mini winkers on my RRV in 2002, and not being able to source these again I bought some Motrax mini arrow winkers from my local dealer's at £14.99 a pair, which to be honest I feel is a little too much and that they should really be priced at £9.99 mainly I feel due to the fact I think the quality of these winkers is a little insubstantial.

Sure they are bright enough having halogen 21w bulb's but the actual body of the unit is badly thought out and the securing stud/bolt is only pushed into the flexi rubber arm stem of the winker and pulls out if you are a little over zealous and tighten the nuts up even moderately, and I ended up having to return 2 set's also because of the unit's failure to flash possibly because of the over tightening but also possibly because the wiring was getting damaged if to do over tighten the nut's on the winker stem base.

So having swapped for replacement set's I ended up having to super glue the stud/bolt into the flexi rubber
stem to stop it pulling out and causing the winker to stop working yet again, also the flexi part of the arm goes directly against the fairing or number plate bracket or what ever your fitting them too and compresses which stresses the rubber, pulls the wire and this causing the winkers to stop flashing, normally after you've checked them thinking they will be fine only to find while out for a ride one or 2 of them don't work !!!!

So my fix was to use some small diameter 4mm thick plastic washers between the base of the winker stem and the fairing and also on the Harris tail tidy to hopefully lessen the stress on the rubber portion of the winker stem also having glued in stud/bolt and this seems to have cured the problem and I now have four winkers that flash as they should..... Why is nothing ever straight forward EH !!!!!

I'm sure you'll agree this isn't good really, yes I know at £15.00 they're fairly cheap, in comparison to genuine Honda winkers, but it's not cheap if they won't work properly !!!

Generally I'm not overly impressed with these winkers, they do look good, but the quality is lacking in the completion of the product, sorry Motrax a redesign is in order, to stop the flexi rubber stem squishing when the nut is tightened which also causes the bolt to get pulled out, even when moderately tightened.

Price 5/10
Ease of Fitting 7/10
Product Quality 5/10

Looks end result 8/10

HONDA-FIREBLADES RATING 6.5/10
But only after I've had to mess about and modify them.
