June 2002.
I
bought my, FSH, 2 owner 1997 Fireblade RRV in March 2002, with
only 11,800 miles from new, after having a Yamaha R6, and before
that a Yzf 750R. This being my first Fireblade.
The Blade is
the bike I'd always promised myself, after first seeing one in 1993.
But due to insuring costs and other factors couldn't get one before,
but the bike is; most definitely worth the wait.
Mod's so far (June 02) are a Quill T3 stainless road legal silencer,
Apollo Performance footrest jack up plates, Datatool Digi, Goodridge
braided hoses, Philips Blue vision headlamp bulb's, Bridgestone
BT010 tyres and of course a top notch alarm/ immobilizer, which
came with the bike when I got it.
Future improvement's will happen as
time and money allow and the other part's wear out; but as the rear
shock is starting to go a little soft when it gets hot now, this
will probably need replacing in the not to distant future, I think.
Unfortunately after a bit of an accident at the end of July 2002,
future Mod's had to take a bit of a back seat, while the very expensive
rebuild happened.
Scroll to the bottom of this page to see the horrible truth, and
a lesson in how not to hurt yourself..... too badly !!!!

The suspension setting's were changed to Performance
Bikes Magazine August 2000, recommended setting's for the RRW
Blade when I first got the bike, And they worked very well for
me at 10.5 stone.
I fitted an Ohlin's
rear shock in April 2003 followed
by some Ohlins front springs in May
2003 with Ohlins 5wt fork oil and
you can read about those updated setting's if you have a Ohlin's
rear shocker fitted on webmaster page 2.
See
the set-up page for full details Click
Here and a
more detailed review of the Ohlins suspension can be found

July 2002.
Here it
is the 'full' unexpurgated horror that befell my RRV on a sunny
Monday afternoon in July 2002 while out for a ride with some mates...
It's so lurid I can't
bear to look.
Luckily ??... Err..."Luckily" ....... I always
keep a camera with me.

Picture
1,
this bend is a nasty left hander, which is also off camber, to make
thing's slightly more interesting. Unfortunately the car driver
that caused all this, got away without a scratch.........typical.
Picture 2/3,
this is after we got bike upright again, from it's inverted position.
Picture's 4/5/6, got bike home
and surveying the carnage. It it wasn't for the fact
I was still in shock after banging my head hard, I think I may have
passed out
again, at seeing just how much damage there is.
Picture's 7/8, Shows
just 'some' of the damaged parts, there were a lot more besides.
Fortunately
or unfortunately which ever way you want to look at it, I can't
really remember very much, after being knocked unconscious briefly.
I was extremely
lucky to have walked away from this one without breaking any bones,
or worse, even though the speed was only about 40 mph, as the pictures
don't really show the perspective very well, the ditch was 5ft deep
and rock lined on one side, also the bike ended up, upside down
lying against the rock wall, after coming in at the far end of picture
1 (arrowed).
OK,
I need to go lie down now......My wallet hurt's
