Changing your brake pads is a relatively straight forward job, for the competent home mechanic, so here is a workshop guide to help you, which should save you bit of money, to put towards more important thing's.

Please remember you must replace the front pads as a complete set (both caliper's) not just one side.

1993-1997 RRN-RRV Models
Single pin retaining models.
Step 1
Remove the brake pad inspection cover, noting which way it's fitted.
Step 2
Remove the pad retaining pin cap.
Remove pad retaining pin cap.
Step 3
Using an Allen key unscrew and withdraw the pad retaining pin.
using an allen key remove the pad retaining pin.
Step 4
And then remove the pad spring noting, which way it is fitted.
Step 5
Then withdraw the brake pads from the caliper body, and check the surface and wear indicator grooves.

The service limit is 3.5mm (0.14in) as an absolute minimum, if less than this the pads must be replaced with new pads, also if the pads are damaged or have been contaminated by grease or brake fluid, they should be replaced.
Step 6
Remove all traces of corrosion from the pads and pad pin, spring etc., Push the piston's back into the caliper body using hand pressure only. You will need to remove the master cylinder cap & diaphragm and syphon a little brake fluid to do this.

Step 7
Smear a little copper grease "only" onto the backs of the new pads, not the sides, and insert the pads into the calipers, insert the pad spring making sure it is fitted correctly, sear a little copper grease onto the pad retaining pin and insert it into the caliper body making sure it passes through the holes in the pads, and sites correctly with the pad spring.

Step 8
Tighten the pad retaining pin with a torque wrench to 13ft lbs or 18Nm replace the pad pin cap and tighten it to the specified torque of 1.8ft lbs or 2.5Nm.

Do the same to the opposite side calipers..

Top up the master cylinder with some new brake fluid, replace the rubber diaphragm and cap, operate the front brake lever several times to bring the pads into contact with the disc's.
Check the master cylinder level again, and that the brakes work properly before riding the motorcycle.

Remove both pad retaining pins

Lift away the pad spring.
Step 3
Withdraw the pads away from the caliper, inspect all components as in Steps 6 & 7 above for single pin model's.
Smear a light coating of copper grease on the back of the pads only, and install them in the calipers, after first pushing the pistons back into the calipers as in the steps 6 & 7 above.
Withdraw the brake pads.
Step 3
Make sure the UP arrow is facing upwards and insert the spring into the caliper aperture,
ake sure the "UP" arrow is facing up.
Step 4

Installing the lower pad pin first.
Lightly tighten the lower pin and then....
insert the upper pad pin, making sure it passes through both the holes in both pads, and correctly through the pad spring.

Make sure both the pad pin's are correctly installed and then tighten them to the specified torque of 13ft lbs or 18Nm.
Insert the upper pad pin.
Top up the master cylinder with some new brake fluid, replace the rubber diaphragm and cap, operate the front brake lever several times to bring the pads into contact with the disc's.
